Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
What exactly is it that you do?
At Ground Zero Recovery Group, we understand completely the turmoil, hopelessness, and the suffering that goes on in the lives of those in the throes of depression. We provide solutions for helping people who are ready to change their lifestyles to move from one of completely unhealthy concepts to one that is healthy.
I have a family member who has been depressed for years. What can I do to help?
If the person is not absolutely ready for change, any help that is “forced” upon them will be viewed with resentment, and will only serve to hurt your relationship with that person. The only thing we can do is turn our backs on that person, to encourage them to hit their “rock bottom”, so that they are ready to accept change into their lives.
I know someone who you can help right now, who is ready for change and wants the help. How should I get them introduced to your program?
Go to our catalog and get them a copy of the home study workshop called “Give Me Death or Give Me Hope”. This is the introductory assesment workshop, and gives an excellent overview of the steps required to begin the healing process.
At the very least, get a copy of “Too Afraid to Live, Too Scared to Die”, and get that person to read it. It will provide initial help until that person can get into a support group.
What is this “God” thing that keeps coming up? Is this some kind of “New Age” idea?
Absolutely not! Every person who is born into this life has a concept of God. Those of us who were suffering had been turned away from God at sometime in our earlier lives due to external forces. We had become agnostic. We needed to see proof. Having struggled with overcoming this obstacle, and the things that blocked us from having a healthy spiritual relationship, we use what we have learned to help those who are spiritually bankrupt or blocked from spirituality by providing simple steps to overcome these blockages.
How do I know the person who is teaching these concepts is qualified?
Paul Larsen primarily mentors the course and workshops. He has suffered from depression his whole life, and has written several books around his own life turmoil, and the extremely effective solutions he has acquired. He shares with his students the tools he knows work, from his own experiences. These life experiences make him uniquely qualified to understand what the still suffering are going through, as he has been there.
Isn’t the (book, course, workshop) a little harsh and direct? Isn’t there an easier, softer way?
The short answer is “No”. The people who have reached their “rock bottom” need a direct approach. They need complete and brutal honesty to enable change in their lives. To do anything else would be hurting more than helping.
You talk about the initial steps to enable change in your workshop and book. What are these exactly?
There are four things that are required to enable change in the lives of those suffering from depression. These are
An ability to be completely honest with ourselves and others.
To be open minded.
To be willing to change.
To be humble enough to receive what is given.
If all of these components are not in place, change and healing cannot proceed as they should.
Can someone who is looking for recovery get all the tools they need in your workshop/ home study kit?
Yes all the tools are presented in this workshop / home study kit. All the things you need are provided in the audio CD and workbook, and is designed to be a stand alone working solution.
This all inclusive program will give you everything you need to get a good start on feeling better today. We do not want you to be left on your own after acquiring these tools. It is not our job to only give you half a solution and let you figure the rest out on your own. We really want these concepts and perceptions to stick with you as you recreate your new life. As we have stated before, although the 13 daily steps will provide immediate results, they are just a “band aid” solution and require a stronger foundation in order for them to have any sort of long lasting effect.
If a person so chose, they could do the rest of the course themselves, if they had a very strong support system behind them. Unfortunately, this is not usually the case, therefore, people are not usually well equipped to take on the challenge of change with the tools they have. It is highly recommended that if they choose to pursue the steps to change their lives, they do it through the course, 13 New Rules for Living*,or through another program that provides accountability and a healthy support system.

Is there a “cure” for depression?
No. There is no “cure”. Depression can be put into remission by redifining our habits, belief systems, working through very intensive behavioral treatment program, and a healthy support system.
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
This article explains it very well
http://www.metanoia.org/suicide/ptsd.htm
PTSD is treated directly as well as its sister Depression in the 13 New Rules for Living Monthly Coaching Program. This is done through slowly working through the steps to come to terms with what has happened, reconnect with emotion, feel it, and start living our lives in a healthy manner. This again takes time.
